Laid-back and low key are the vibes you can expect at the Zeus Hotels Ydoria Resort. Found in the traditional seaside town of Adelianos Kampos in northern Crete, it’s just a two-minute stroll from the beach and 10 minutes from the centre of Rethymnon. Little ones are especially welcome here. Not only is there a pool with three colourful slides but a mini club and playground, too. There are a further three pools for making a splash, including a heated number found indoors, a few exercise machines for those who like to keep on top of their fitness regime. To really unwind, why not book yourself a massage? Meanwhile, two poolside bars mean you can hop out of the water and grab an ice-cold cocktail whenever it tickles your fancy. Or if you’re in need of some light refreshment, the main bar has a variety of snacks, salads and ice-cream to curb off your hunger pangs. In need of something a bit more substantial? The hotel’s main buffet restaurant serves up cuisine around the world including theme nights with show cooking at dinnertime. From its idyllic location near the beach to its host of family-friendly facilities, every guest at the Zeus Hotels Ydoria Resort is made to feel extra-special. I think this could be a great-value option based on your feedback – a smaller, more relaxed 4★ resort with a fresh, modern feel, four pools and plenty for the children without feeling like a huge family complex. Recent reviews are particularly encouraging for the food, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere, with no recurring concerns around the dreaded sunbed wars! The beach is around 200m away and you also have lovely Rethymno nearby for an evening or day out. There are fewer dining options than some of my original choices, but given the excellent price and overall hotel experience, I felt this one was definitely worth showing you.
